Cruciferous vegetables and the soup that came before

Yesterday was a great Monday. Yes, you heard that right. I think my inner calmness wafted over into the day from Sunday and permeated it was awesomeness. Work wasn't stressful and seemed to go by quickly. I read during lunch. I was really excited to come home and make dinner because Jonathan found a recipe in my Sweet Wifey Monthly that we thought sounded awesome, so I really wanted to make it. Salmon leftovers can wait until tomorrow!

I made this sausage and kale soup and then also made some roasted broccoli and cauliflower. Both turned out super yummy! I put pictures of the making of both here and here, but here's a preview of some of the pictures.

 This smelled absolutely amazing!

This was a really pretty soup.

 Ta da!

Doesn't this look tasty?

I am starting to do more research on health-related things I can do for my precancerous cells. I have heard (although I have not had time to do much research yet) that cruciferous vegetables may help lower one's risk of cancer. This was a neat article I found. Whether this is true or not, I love veggies and so I am more than happy to up my servings of a few certain kinds. It never hurts to eat more vegetables! Usually Jonathan and I are pretty good about eating veggies, but one can always be better. I've really been enjoying finding a wider variety of vegetable recipes. We eat a lot of vegetarian food, but also some meat and definitely fish, as, if you follow my Facebook fan page for this blog, I post all of my food recipes and pictures there.

If anyone has any recipes they'd like to share I'm always on the lookout for new ones!

  1. Vegetables certainly do have major health benefits and, prepared well, they can be very tasty.

I find the key is not overcooking them and adding spices that appeal to you. For me, strong flavors like garlic, tumeric and jalepenos perk up any veggie. Your dishes look delicious!

  2. Oooh those curried veggies look delish! I'm a vegetarian myself, I'll occasionally eat fish maybe once/twice a month though, so I'd love to see some vegge recipes of yours! x

  3. Shybiker, thank you! I love garlic and turmeric, but I have a tough time with jalapenos. Too spicy for me! I am a curry addict, though.

Jamie Lee, no, but I want to see some of YOUR recipes! ;o) I have been tagging all of my posts that include recipes with the "recipe" tag, so you might find something you like? (And hello!)
