It's Alaska Day!

It's Alaska Day! You know what that means? It means we celebrate all things Alaskan!

You could wake up in the morning and pour yourself a cup of our 50th Anniversary of Alaska Celebration Blend.

After you drink your coffee and read your online newspaper of choice (whether it be the Ketchikan Daily News, the Anchorage Daily News, or the Juneau Empire), you could lather up in the shower with some Alaska made soap. Do you choose the Glacier Blend or are you an Evergreen kind of gal? (You might even be the Fisherman type!)

After you hop out of the shower, you get dressed and, because we're thinking Alaska, you're dressing warm. Be sure and wear your Slugs to keep your feet warm in your Tuffies, because they're probably not the insulated ones!

I'd just like to interject with a photo. You know you're at an Alaskan party when you see this by the door:

Because we know it's raining outside, you want to make sure you have a waterproof purse. Your coat is probably a North Face Denali Jacket, but it could also be a sweet halibut jacket, or is probably by Columbia, Patagonia, or The North Face. (I just found this blog post called "How to Dress Like a Southeastern Alaskan" and it rocks! Plus, I am super loving the blog, too!)

Last, but not least, you need to put on some jewelry! May I suggest something from here or here?

You go to work, blah blah blah, but THEN you get to come home! Might I suggest a few recipes for you to try? These are all similar to recipes that I make here at home, so I can attest to their deliciosity!

Disclaimer: One thing I should mention, because this is one of those fairly obvious things to me, but it isn't for some people. Look to see where your seafood (and other food) is coming from! Don't get farm raised! The wild stuff tastes better, has better texture, and isn't filled with crap. I can get a whole wild Alaskan sockeye from Freddie's for about $12. This lasts for about three meals for Jonathan and I, so it's not like you can't do it, too. Also, it's good for your brain to eat fish. Do it. Don't you care about yourself?
  • Bacon-Wrapped Barbeque Shrimp (I use prawns and dip everything in BBQ sauce at the end)
  • Teriyaki Salmon (although I put salmon fillets in a big ziploc, pour in some teriyaki sauce, and then let it sit in the fridge for a day or so, flipping the bag every morning and night. not fancy, but cheap and delicious!)
  • Halibut Mango Ceviche (a bit more involved than my halibut/rockfish/cod/shrimp ceviche, but it sounds good!)
  • Smoked Salmon Spread (a staple at any Alaskan get together)
  • Crab Dip (my mouth waters just thinking of this. serve it with green apples on the side, along with your bread. WOW.)
  • Halibut BLTs (make a BLT and put halibut in it. VOILA!)
Jonathan and I will be at home tonight celebrating with salmon and Alaskan Winters. Yum!

Edit: Blogger tells me this is my 49th post and Alaska is the 49th state. WHOA. ;o)
