Hoyt Arboretum: A Woodland Dream in Portland
The latest house I've been house-sitting is near Hoyt Arboretum. Like, it's the backyard of the house practically. My new dog friend Zach and I have been spending many glorious nature-filled hours exploring all over the arboretum in the past few days, so I thought I'd share some pictures. The arboretum boasts twelve miles of trails over almost 200 acres! As you can imagine, there's a lot to see!
I tend to stick to the more tree-filled areas because it reminds me of home, but walking through the flower and shrub areas always makes me find something new! Also, there are more than 6,000 specimens and 1,400 species, which are labeled so you can easily identify them. There's birches, oaks, redwoods, spruces, cedars, all sorts of trees!
If you like nature and haven't been to the arboretum, I highly suggest you go! It would also be a lovely place for a visitor of Portland to see also. You can get there by TriMet (both MAX and bus), car, or foot. Basically, what I'm getting at in this post, is that it's amazing and you should go. :o)

ReplyDeleteWe love the arboretum. I think I forget about it since the Gorge is so close ... but on a Sunday afternoon, when I just need to get outside, we LOVE heading over there. There are always new things to find!
ReplyDeleteBefore this house-sitting gig I had only been a couple times and it was quite awhile ago. I will DEFINITELY be going there more often now!

ReplyDeleteEwww... slug. I'm glad I don't have to battle them anymore. It was so nasty when you cut them in half with a shovel.
