The Official List of Books Read In January
Oh, man, January was a great month for reading books! As I stated before, I am trying to read 50 books this year to make up for not a whole lot of reading while I was in school. I think I did pretty good for my first month! This is what I read:
1. "Torch" by Cheryl Strayed
2. "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susan Cain
3. "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer
4. "How We Decide" by Jonah Lehrer
5. "Mink River" by Brian Doyle
6. "The $100 Startup: Reinvent the Way You Make a Living, Do What You Love, and Create a New Future" by Chris Guillebeau
I also started to read "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell. I'm feeling pretty "meh" about it so far, although I know people Really like it. I'm about 20% of the way in, so I'm hoping I start liking it more.
I think that "Torch" was amazing and had some great quotes. Cheryl Strayed is an amazing writer! I love her books. "Quiet" was also really good and helped me understand a lot. I consider myself 60% extrovert, 40% introvert (this may come as a surprise to some!) and Jonathan is a lot more introverted than I am, so it was really eye-opening to think about the differences and similarities between us. I also feel like I learned about myself some. Just read it!
I also got a lot of suggestions about books to read and I'm looking forward to tackling some of them! After I finish "Cloud Atlas" I have "Skinny Bitch" to read from the library. Speaking of the library, I've got my Kobo set up so I can read library books on it and have been able to get some. It's awesome and so convenient!
Yay reading!!

hah! After you tweeted (I think it was a tweet?) about Torch, I ordered it. :) And then I started it, and was liking it, and then I misplaced it and haven't been able to finish it! Love reading these recommendations! On a side note, am using the lemon lavender soap every morning and love it. It's so bright and yummy - totally wakes me up in the morning. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh, yay! Glad you were liking "Torch" but bummer that you lost it. Hopefully you find it and are able to finish it!
DeleteAlso glad you are using and loving the Harriet soap! I have two more left if you are interested at all, but no pressure!
Ah, lately I don't seem to find time for reading which makes me feel bad. Into the Wild is the one that got filmed a few years ago, right? What did you learn from the $100 startup?
ReplyDeleteYes, "Into the Wild" got turned into a movie a few years back. I seem to remember thinking it was a well-made movie, as well, too. Definitely recommend it! I have read it several times now.
DeleteI feel like there was SO much I learned from the $100 Startup. Just lots of good business knowledge and things to try. If (when?) I start up another business after my soap business is done I will purchase the book and reread it again so I can refer to it often. If you are able to find it I would recommend it!!
How did you like Mink River? I keep wanting to read it but haven't bought it yet. I think it's the raven on the cover that has hypnotized me :)
ReplyDeleteInto the Wild was amazing - I love Krakauer!
“Mink River” was great! I had a hard time getting into it at first, because of the way it was written and the lack of punctuation, but I ended up loving it. The raven’s name is Moses and he was one of my favorite characters. The book described coastal Oregon to the T, so it was really easy to imagine the location and the characters within. All in all, a FABULOUS book!
DeleteI will DEFINITELY get it then! Thanks for the recommendation. Are you on Goodreads? If so, we should be friends :D http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/7174864-sofie
DeleteI'm not on Goodreads because I don't want to join another social networking type site. Sorry if that sounds lame! I go on it sometimes just to browse. Maybe I will look into it more. I know a lot of friends use it!
DeleteThat doesn't sound lame at all - we are all spread too thin online - which is why I'll always love blogs more than social media! It's kind of hard to stay away from that one if you are a bookworm like me.
Delete50 books in a year was my goal last year...and I just made it on the afternoon of 12/31/12! My goal is 51 this year and, so far, I'm on track. Good for you for this goal!
ReplyDeleteOh, yay! Good job for making your goal right in the knick of time! What are you reading now?
