2013 Resolution: Do A Cleanse

My initial grocery haul...and this is just for the first week!

BEST smoothie yet! Honey Strawberry smoothie

Beet & carrot hash with kale and salmon

Purple cabbage salad with almond butter dressing

This post is about me tackling one of my 2013 resolutions. Won't you follow along?

As I mentioned before, one of my 2013 resolutions was to do a cleanse. I've been wanting to do a cleanse for a few years but there were several reasons why I felt it was not the right time for me. I was on birth control I didn't know if that would be affected, it wasn't a good time in my life to do it, I couldn't afford it (cleansing ain't cheap!), I hadn't found a cleanse that sounded right for me (I like to eat and I don't want to just drink juices), and more. The way life has been going I feel as though I am finally ready to do this cleanse and I have been very excited about it!

The Shift Cleanse is by Skylor Powell, who is one of the first people I followed on the Twitters, way back when! When I first started reading about the Shift Cleanse I knew I had finally found the cleanse I wanted to do. All of the recipes sounded delicious, were foods I would eat anyway, and there were only a few days of just liquids. I could do that! I also drooled over the photo post she put together. She had a discounted rate for a little while and I knew the stars were aligned and I needed to do this cleanse. I bought it and couldn't WAIT to start! I wanted to wait until after the holidays because starting beforehand would only set me up for failure and I want to succeed in this. I'm now on Day 7 and am feeling awesome!

The first few days I felt a little tired, foggy-headed, had a few dizzy spells, and was kinda dopey. I was very tired and wanted to sleep. I wasn't really missing any food, although coffee sounded nice. It is now the end of the first week and I am feeling much better! I still would like a cup of coffee in the morning because I miss the flavor, but that's really the only thing that's bothering me and I wouldn't really even call it a "bother." Other foods sound good to me, but it's more of the textural part that I miss. Like potato soup sounds amazing, not because of the taste, but the texture.

One thing I'm loving about the cleanse is that you get to eat so many different delicious recipes. Many of these are recipes I would happily make again! The recipes make quite a bit of food and I have been able to share some of them with Jonathan and he agrees that they're pretty tasty!

Another thing that I'm loving about the cleanse is that I've lost a few pounds on it from detoxing. I'm eating over my recommended daily amount of calories to lose weight and every morning I wake up about half a pound lighter. It's pretty awesome!

All these thoughts and I'm only done with a third of the cleanse! I'm looking forward to seeing how the next two weeks go!

  1. I've been looking for a cleanse like this for awhile - the price tag scared me, so I'm excited to hear your review! Is it a big time commitment to do the cooking?

    1. Oh, it's been AWESOME!! I am seriously loving it. I think I might even mostly stay on it after the 21 days because I'm loving the weight loss aspect! I have lost almost four pounds this week, 8lbs since I started trying to lose weight about a month ago. My clothes are fitting better!

The cooking isn't really time-consuming at all IF you take the time to chop all of your fruits and veggies beforehand, which will take an hour or two. I went shopping and did my chopping on the Sunday before my cleanse started and it took a few hours for all of that. I think it is totally worth it, though!

    1. It would be relatively easy for you two, I think! And technically only one of you has to pay for it because the other would get the benefits, so it wouldn't be as costly. I think it's totally worth it! Yesterday when I put my sports bra on in the morning before we played outside I had to tighten it up a notch for it to be secure! That hasn't happened in years! It was a good feeling. ;o)
