Monday Monday

Wow, what a weekend! It was 98% awesome, only 2% crappy. Technically, the most exciting stuff happened before it was officially the weekend. My pen pal Stina and her boyfriend Ben stopped by Portland on Thursday night to spend some time with us on their driving trip from Vancouver, B.C. to San Francisco. They spent Thursday and Friday nights in Portland and we had a wonderful time! They got in a lot of tax-free shopping and had some interesting adventures. (Things seen downtown: naked boobies, crazy lady telling them of how she just got her driver's license and was buying a car, and Yelling Man across the street from Powell's, to name a few...)

Thursday night we went to North for drinks, which they loved, and then to the Mash Tun for beer and dinner. (Ben loves beer about as much as I do! We had a lot to talk about.) I had the Mash Tun's grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and avocado and a pint of their Kitchen Sink IPA, which had something like seven different kinds of hops in it? However many it had, it was crazy delicious.

Friday they did a lot of shopping (and went to Deschutes without me - sad!). I was able to get off work at 3pm that day and meet up with them downtown. I got a huge face-sized slice of tomato & pesto pizza at Rocco's and an Inversion IPA and I was happy. We decided to hit up North again for their happy hour, where Jonathan met up with us after he got off work. Dinner on Friday was fried pies from Whiffies. This was a direct request from Stina to "please take us to the place with the fried pies that you keep talking about!" They don't have fried pies in Vancouver, which is sad, indeed.

Canadians give Whiffies two thumbs up!

Pie love all around!

I got up early on Saturday morning to see Stina and Ben off. I was feeling like I really wanted to go to yoga. I checked Sprout's website to see if they offered Saturday yoga, because I've really been wanting to go there, as I haven't yet. Lo and behold, Saturday yoga was starting for the first time that day! This seemed like a good sign, so I wanted to make it there. This is where the only crappy part of my weekend happened. I went outside to get in the car and realized someone had smashed into the front of it! No note! Nothing! I was totally in shock. The car is probably driveable, but it just kinda ruined that part of my day. Now instead of going to yoga I had to call Progressive and report it. (Still waiting on the claims agent to call me back, though.)

Instead of going to yoga, now I really needed something to cheer me up! So Jonathan and I rode our bikes to Trader Joe's and picked up some of their sparkling juices (to mix with vodka later - yum!) and lunch stuff. At 3pm I headed to Andrea's house to meet up with some other ladies to learn about Through the Viewfinder photography. It was so neat! I finally got to meet Jena in person (I've been reading her blog for over a year now, maybe two?) and some other lovely ladies, and see some that I already know and love!

Back at home Jonathan and I spent the evening watching Dirty Jobs episodes on Wii Netflix. The last one we watched was pretty cool, because Mike was at Happy Trails Kennels, owned by Martin Buser, who we saw at last year's Iditarod!

So we thought it was cool that we got to watch this episode featuring someone we've seen in real life several times. He's one of my favorite mushers, too!

Sunday was really relaxing! I got caught up on some work for the coffee shop and lounged. I read for awhile and did some laundry. We watched more Dirty Jobs. Pretty laid back!

And now it is Monday... My fall term starts today, so now I'm officially in school again. Only two classes, so that's nice! I think I'm going to try a blog posting schedule of Monday/Wednesday/Fridays while I'm in school to give me some homework time. Technically, since I'm doing online classes it's all home work. :o)

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

  2. Yes, you, too! Maybe when you get back from your wedding drive extravaganza and I see how busy school makes me we can do that Mt. Tabor walk. :o)
