Tuesday Giveaway from RainyIsle!
Know what's totally awesome? Meeting up with other Alaskan people in Oregon! This week I'm happy to host a giveaway from Rachael of RainyIsle, another Ketchikanite-in-Portland-er! Rachael is giving away one 5x7 print from her Etsy shop. The winner gets to pick which one!
But first, as always, the mucho importanto artist interview!
Hi Brittany! Here's my artist interview for the Tuesday giveaway, thanks for featuring me.
Name: Rachael H-N.
Age: A lady doesn’t tell!
Location: Oregon (and this year I migrate to Alaska for the summer)
Where can we find you online?
You can find prints of my illustrations for sale on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/RainyIsle
I also keep an art blog which chronicles my drawing/painting process, so if you want to know how a piece was created, this is the place to check out: rainyisle.blogspot.com/
And finally, I have larger, original abstract paintings exhibited here, on UGallery: www.ugallery.com/rachael-neterer
How did we meet?
I believe we went to high school together, and with about 375 people in the school everyone knows everyone.
What do you do for a living?
I’m a freelance illustrator and animator; right now I’m working on a beta FaceBook game.
How did you take up your artistic medium?
I’ve been drawing ever since I can remember – literally. I got into animation and character design while in college, attending the Art Institute of Portland. People and fashion are my favorite things to draw by far, so I’ve decided to focus my Etsy store on these illustrations. I found that if I’m strongly drawn to a book or movie, it’s not necessarily because of the storyline or plot, but the characters themselves. I’ve also started to do abstract paintings, which you can check out on UGallery. The painting process itself is relaxing and rather therapeutic, getting to be messy while creating is always fun.
Three reasons you’re awesome:
1 – I have mastered the snickerdoodle cookie recipe
2 – I am extremely passionate and dedicated to what I do, almost to the point of obsession.
3 – I love to talk long walks on the beach. Serious! Cannon Beach is my favorite in Oregon and Settler’s Cove in Ketchikan. (of course in Ketchikan you run into a bunch of rocks so it’s more of a walk/climb/scramble)
What’s your favorite quote?
Alice, from Alice in Wonderland: "I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, Sir, because I'm not myself you see."
What do you do when you’re having a bad day to remedy it?
Take a walk! I like to get outside for at least half an hour, leave behind whatever was putting me in a bad mood and come back to it later in the day with a clear head. Husband is also great when I tend to stress out, (which he’ll tell you is more often than I’d like to admit!) he always seems to know what to say.
What’s a piece of good advice you’d like to pass onto the readers?
Hmmm…this is the question that took me the longest to answer…I think the best advice I can give is the simplest: if you’re not happy, change something! Sounds a lot easier than it is to actually do, I know. But seriously, you’re the only person who can fix things, don’t wait for something to happen, or someone to come along and fix it for you.
Anything more you’d like to tell us?
Please come say hi to me if you’re in Ketchikan! I’ll be working there this summer, and will have a Blueberry Festival booth so stop on by. Once the festival gets closer, I’ll post more details and preview photos of what I’ll be selling on my art blog.
Yaaaay! Huzzah!
So! How can you enter to win one of these fabulous prints? I shall tell you!

Oh, this was an easy one! I would have done most of those things anyway! :3 I "liked" you on FB, hearted her ADORABLE etsy store, and I'm really super-duper into that Daruma print (although I also like the Classic loli one - I just have a soft spot for daruma dolls. n_n)!
ReplyDeleteEep, okay, that above comment was me, but I'm not doing the lj thing again because it took like 5 minutes of clicking to get it posted. X3 Anyway, my email is captain.katu AT gmail.com, since I don't think it's posted anywhere.

ReplyDeleteHi there,
I already saw your art on EGL some time ago and loved it! Still, I would prefer the Zombie Queen over all the cuties you have done, cause...well...who's not into Zombies?! :D
Keep up your great work, and I would love to see more geeky stuff from you :)
I liked your FB and shared the link to this blog entry (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001551607705), but my FB page is friends only. I guess the easiest way to contact me (just in case) is via Livejournal PM, my name there is Alaizable.
I liked you on facebook (under the name Chloe Bantermon Headington), tweeted (un: monochromia), and followed!
ReplyDeleteThose two cupcake prints are absolutely adorable, if I don't win one I'm definitely buying one when I redecorate my kitchen.
