Things I'm Loving Lately: Bees!

Bees and I go way back. I have always been fascinated with them. My friend Deborah and I used to do an "experiment" when we were really little because we wanted to track the bees by her house. We'd catch a bee in a jar, knock it out, and paint a teeny tiny little dot of red nail polish on the back of the bee, where it wouldn't touch the wings or anything. We weren't trying to harm the bee in any way (although looking back now, this probably wasn't *the* greatest thing to do to the poor bees), but we wanted to track their locations in other parts of her yard. I don't remember what the results of the experiment were, but I do remember primitive graphs of where the bees went and what bushes they seemed to like.

Now that I'm older (and wiser and don't try and put nail polish on bees) I am happy to still love the little guys. I can watch bees do Bee Work for awhile. I love how industrious they are! Jonathan and I are looking forward to the day when we have our own place, because I intend to become an apiarist and and have several hives. Until then, I will have to wear and display my love for our little honeybee friends. And I promise I won't try any experiments on them!

Here's some bee things I'm loving lately...

(Which I do own and use!)

What will I love next week? I guess you'll just have to find out! What have you been loving lately?

  4. I am loving bees right now too! I was just thinking today how I want to make a sunny yellow honey dish with a vintage bee illustration on it. Now I will have to buy one of those honey dippers to go in it. Ditto on the Secret Life of Bees. I love that book.

  5. I love them all the time! I wanted to get a mason bee box this year for better pollination but didn't get to it in time. Hopefully next year! Someday I'd like to have honey bees as well, but for now, I'll just have to dream!
