Making Soap and Hood River Adventures

Ha! This weekend was the right weekend for me to meet up with Sharron. As you may remember, I went to meet her last week and didn't realize until I got to the seafood shop that I had the wrong day. Sigh! It was great to see her and to learn a little bit about what to look for in fish to use for gyotaku. I bought three that I will use to make prints with in a few weeks. I picked up a red snapper, a parrotfish, and a pompano. (Links go to pictures of frozen fish, just to warn you in case you click them and don't want to see dead fish.)

Saturday afternoon was exciting because I made my first soap! Snappy Rockfish is a lovely-smelling lemongrass ginger soap. I've got a feeling this is the kind of bar that's going to wake you up in the morning! Here's a link to my Flickr album of photos I took as I was making it.

Sunday morning I made some Mocha Java soap with cocoa butter, Witches Brew coffee, and some coffee grounds to give it some scrubbie. Both of these soaps smelled SO good when I was making them! Wow! Here's the album of Mocha Java pictures.

The cocoa butter and coconut oil smelled like a Mounds bar! Yummy!!

Ta da! Mocha Java soap!

Sunday afternoon the plan was to go to Hood River for Double Mountain Brewery's beer and some yummy food. We had our growler ready to fill with their super delicious IRA!

It was raining sideways so we prepped ourselves...

We got to Double Mountain and got our beer. It was just as good as it always is!

We got our first round...

And then our second round...

After that I was SO full. It didn't hurt that Double Mountain is known for their pizza. We shared a sausage (made locally), onion, and mushroom pizza that was definitely some of the best pizza I've had. Ohhhh, yeah, it was GOOD! Sadly, there are no pictures of it. That's how you know we were hungry!

After we ate I wanted to go to the Pacifica Outlet store. I love Pacifica because they are a local company and their products are AWESOME! I will only buy their candles because they burn evenly and are really scented. I usually wait until I get to the outlet store to buy them because I usually save $10 a candle, like this time! I got a $16 Bourbon Vanilla candle for $6.95. Not too shabby! I picked up their Avalon Juniper body butter and perfume. It smells so good! It reminds me of the Primal Elements Ginger Fish lotion I used to buy in high school.

While we were at the outlet store I got to meet the new shop dog, Bobbie. Part chihuahua and part mystery, she's eight weeks' worth of cuteness!

She was sooo cute! We cuddled her for almost 45 minutes and then finally left. :o)

We have now been home for about an hour and have been sacked out on the couch. Both of us are still totally stuffed and I do not see eating anything else tonight in my future, although we did buy some asparagus from Freddie's on our way home. I would love to eat some asparagus and kale, but don't think I'll have room.

So from my lumpish place on the couch, I hope everyone had a great weekend and I would love to read weekend posts or hear what you did!
